READ TIME: 2.00 MINS
My entire working life has involved and revolved around the word EPIC.
Those who know me think I am all about sales and marketing. These may be the end result of my efforts and a great deal of creativity. However it all starts – and ends – with that word EPIC. How? Why is it so?
EPIC in my mind has always meant the application of Energy, Persistence, Initiative and Commitment. Those four words make things happen, for me. There are so many stories that illustrate EPIC in my life.
ENERGY: The 84 year old Emeritus Professor of Physics at Beijing University who thirty-five years ago taught me energy-breathing disciplines in China. The physical, mental and spiritual energy techniques I have studied, learnt and apply daily.
PERSISTENCE: I was taught early-on. Lessons from my TV and Film days and especially throughout my life insurance career, “there is no one with endurance – like the man who sells insurance” was the saying of the day.
INITIATIVE: I could fill a book on this topic alone. The cake I took to one of Australia’s largest public companies to explain superannuation – and won the business! The idea and adoption of the ‘Daffodil’ logo for the Cancer Council, it is now the international Symbol of Hope, and the creation of the first direct-marketing opportunity in financial-services that became David Jones Insurances. They’re just 3 examples.
COMMITMENT: To me, is a given. No 50/50 baloney. You give 100% and you should expect 100% in return. Sadly it doesn’t always happen that way – in life and in business. Read the philosopher Goethe’s famous quote on the subject. Whenever I apply myself totally 100% to the task at hand amazing things always happen. My wife and I call it “The Magic”. I don’t know how it happens – it just does.
Why do I tell you all this?
Well for one, it’s to share with you my belief in the application of EPIC and what I nominate as the meanings of this anagram, in both your personal life and your work life. The second reason is an early indication to you – our readers, throughout Australia and throughout the world, that MANSAM® Magazine is growing into a new purpose and direction and that the application of EPIC will be ever present in all these future editions. I will be specific in my next Editorial mid-Feb.
Now, to begin this month we present a stunning line-up for you.
